Tennis couple who split up before Olympics rekindle romance after winning gold together

Thomas Machac and Katerina Siniakova appear to have rekindled their relationship after winning gold in the Olympic mixed doubles. Tennis fans were gutted when the Czech pair announced they had split in the days prior to the tournament in Paris.

There were concerns that Machac and Siniakova would withdraw from the Olympics after confirming that they had split up. However, they insisted that they would remain professional and compete for their country.

Remarkably, they won gold after an incredible run at the French Open’s Roland Garros home. They defeated partnerships from Germany, Japan and Switzerland to book a place in the final.

In Friday’s showdown, Machac and Siniakova beat China’s Zhang Zhizhen and Wang Xinyu to win gold medals. They sealed their victory with a heart-warming embrace and a kiss.

That prompted rumours that their relationship had rekindled. Questions around their romance made up a large part of their post-match press conference, a bizarre scenario for athletes who have just reached the pinnacle of Olympic sport.

Machac clearly grew frustrated and reportedly rolled his eyes at one question. Siniakova was more willing to answer but did not give anything away.

The 28-year-old laughed before responding: “That’s our personal life, so you don’t need to know that. We like when you are confused.”

Machac finally chipped in, quipping: “This is top secret.”

It comes just days after they announced their relationship had ended. Siniakova insisted that the issue was private but confirmed that she and Machac would put personal feelings aside to compete for Czechia.
