BBC’s Coverage of Against Tommy Fleetwood Enrages Olympic Golf Viewers: ‘Another Level of S**t’

If there’s anyone who has been consistent over the four days at Le Golf National, it’s Tommy Fleetwood. The athlete has managed to stay at the top rungs of the scoreboard despite other golfers moving up and down on the same. However, the fans weren’t too pleased. The reason? Well, it appears the BBC hasn’t properly covered the golfer’s performance.

On another note, Novak Djokovic managed to beat the in-form Carlos Alcaraz 7-6(3), 7-6(2) and clinch his first gold medal at the prestigious event. By doing so, he was able to fill in the much-anticipated gap on his career resume, that of a complete career Golden Grand Slam. The tennis pro became the fifth player to win all four majors and the Olympic gold.

Unfortunately, many couldn’t catch ahold of the epic match nor were they able to watch the golf coverage. The network received a lot of backlash from the community and a fan even came forward to comment, “BBC coverage of Olympics on another level of s**t! Djokovic & Alcaraz going head-to-head in what could be an all-time epic. Also a stacked leaderboard with [Jon] Rahm, [Rory] McIlroy, Tommy Fleetwood, [Scottie] Scheffler, and [Xander] Schauffele all within 3 shots. Yet can’t watch either sport on IPlayer or the BBC.”

The golfer finished at T2 at the quadrennial event. He was able to do so owing to his figures of 18-under allowing him to place himself above the likes of Viktor Perez and Jon Rahm while in close contention with Scottie Scheffler who is at T1. But many weren’t able to watch the exhilarating golf, especially in the final round of play. Consequently, a follower responded, “#BBCOlympics #bbc where is the #golf coverage. Tommy Fleetwood going for golf…” Meanwhile, the wife of another ardent enthusiast commented, “Hubby is mad. BBC has the coverage for the Olympics and they aren’t playing the golf. Tommy Fleetwood is in a play off and he can’t watch it. If they aren’t going to cover it why not give it to another channel.”

The Hundred is a professional cricket tournament that pits two teams against each other for a 100-ball match. The London Spirit Men and the Oval Invincibles Men kicked off their match at the Lord’s in London while the Northern Superchargers Women and the Manchester Originals Women started theirs at Headingley in Leeds. A fan mentioned how the BBC was covering the two matches instead of the golf event as they commented, “Tommy Fleetwood going for gold vs The Hundred…guess what’s on BBC 2.” Another enthusiast, at the same time, responded, “I’ve been reduced to reading the leader board page on BBC Sport and refreshing it every couple of minutes (keep going, Tommy!).” Guess the community really isn’t happy that they weren’t able to witness the Englishman clinch the silver medal.
