“Talked to Him at Length”: Jordan Spieth Opens Up on Rejected Presidents Cup Offer After Injury Shattered His Patriotic Dream
The Presidents Cup is knocking on the door with the twelve best Americans to defend the International team. However, the list absence of names of players like Justin Thomas and Jordan Spieth shocked the golf world. Spieth recently underwent wrist surgery that he got last year. While a lot of people thought that was the reason for him not being selected, captain Jim Furyk revealed that it had nothing to do with the injury.
He just wanted more rookies to be on the team. However, Furyk had offered Jordan Spieth to be involved with the team, but he refused to take up the offer.
In an interview with Golfweek, Jordan Spieth was asked how he felt being outside the Presidents Cup team. Thinking about the 2019 Ryder Cup that he missed playing for Tiger Woods he stated it generally is very tough. “That was hard. I hated it,” he said. But, he also added that it is a rather difficult task to make it to the team.
Although it still stings not being a part of the team, Spieth said that Furyk made an incredible team. But to get the selection, he often spoke to the captain, but it did nothing for him. However, after the selection, Furyk reached out to him and requested him to be a part of the the team from sidelines. “He asked different ways that maybe I can be involved. And it’s just at a very important part of my physical therapy so it’s just better for me to stay home and watch”, revealed Jordan Spieth.
