Fergie’s surprising 6-word remark when asked if Prince Andrew is moving out of Royal Lodge
Sarah Ferguson has addressed the rumours regarding Prince Andrew being forced to vacate his home, Royal Lodge in Windsor
Sarah Ferguson has addressed the swirling rumours regarding Prince Andrew being forced to vacate his home, Royal Lodge in Windsor.
It comes as King Charles is now said to be withdrawing private funding for security on the estate which cost £3million a year. This means that unless the Duke of York can generate the financial resources to pay for repairs the property needs, as well as foot the security bill, he could be faced with being evicted from the property.
Despite the couple’s divorce in 1996, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson have remained on good terms and continue to live together in the 30-bedroom property thought to be worth £30million.
In an interview with Spanish outlet ¡HOLA! TV as reported in the Mirror, Sarah addressed rumours of eviction but did not confirm or deny anything. Talking to the press she issued a surprising six-word remark: “Don’t always believe what you read.”
However, after being pushed on the matter further, she claimed she wasn’t privy to the conversations, and told the interviewer:
“I don’t know. I take every day as it comes.”
In early 2023, King Charles slashed his brother’s annual allowance of £249,000, which essentially priced him out of running the 30-room Royal Lodge.
It follows Prince Andrew’s bombshell interview with the BBC in 2019 which focused on alleged connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The Duke vehemently and repeatedly denied allegations of wrongdoing.
The 2020, the late Queen stripped Andrew, the Duke of York, of his honorary military roles and he stopped using the title ‘His Royal Highness’ in any official capacity. At the time, Buckingham Palace said in a statement: “With the Queen’s approval and agreement, the Duke of York’s military affiliations and Royal patronages have been returned to the Queen.”
Rumours have also suggested that Prince William may evict Prince Andrew from the Royal Lodge. Royal reporter Richard Kay told Mail Online: “William has long held a grudge against Andrew for being unwelcoming when he first introduced the then Kate Middleton to the royal family and feels that his father has been too soft on him.
“It has led to speculation that it is William who is pushing his father to evict the Duke of York from Royal Lodge, so the Waleses could move in.”
For now, Prince Andrew remains living in Royal Lodge in 98 acres of grounds on the Windsor estate, which he has lived in for over 20 years after signing a 75-year lease.
Sources have told The Sun that in the local area Andrew is believed to be somewhat of a recluse, only emerging from his home to ride his horses or play golf, something he greatly enjoys.
One said: “You used to see him going up to the stables to go riding and he’d be talking non-stop to the grooms and they’d rarely be saying anything back. You wondered what they got out of it.”
He still maintains a close relationship with his former wife, Sarah Ferguson, who often accompanies him on dog walks in the grounds after they inherited the late Queen Elizabeth’s two corgis to join their five Norfolk terriers.
