Prince Harry and Meghan address £1.5M security row with offer to Colombia

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle donate gifts to Colombia through Archewell Foundation

During their four-day visit to Colombia, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made a significant impact by donating a range of gifts through their charity, The Archewell Foundation.

Invited by Vice President Francia Marquez, the couple aimed to “show up and do good, no matter where we are in the world.”

Among their contributions, the Montecito-based duo gifted drum sets to Escuela Tambores de Cabildo and funded upgrades to a “socio-emotional gym” at Colegio La Giralda school.

They also committed to donating funds to enhance a “secure environment for local children to explore, learn, and connect” in San Basilio de Palenque.

The couple emphasized that their efforts reflect their dedication to supporting and uplifting communities.

Despite recent controversy over security expenses, with accusations that their protection cost over £1.5 million, Colombian officials have confirmed that the couple covered the entire cost of their trip themselves.

El País reports that the Colombian Ministry has confirmed Harry and Meghan covered all their travel expenses during their recent visit.

According to a Ministry spokesperson, “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex financed their trip and that of their team with their own resources.”

While the Sussexes covered the bulk of their travel costs, international agencies are said to have contributed to the overall expenses.
