Sergio Garcia and Wife’s Charity Golf Event Didn’t Invite Bryson DeChambeau & Most LIV Golfers; Here’s Why

Building the game and moving it closer to his fans has always been Sergio Garcia’s ultimate aim. Because of that, the Spaniard started a charity event in 2022 for all his young fans, as he could encourage the spirit of golf in them. The FORE Kids ATX has been held in Austin, Texas, for two years. At the end of the year, the 1-time major winner and his wife, Angela Garcia, overlook it. This year, the event will feature only a few LIV golfers.

Although the Saudi-backed league is on season break, why couldn’t the players make it to FORE Kids ATX? In an interview with Golf Magic, the 2017 Masters winner talked about pending sanctions, allegedly $2 million, for the Ryder Cup and answered that question. Garcia recounted how in the first year they had plenty of golfers enjoying the event, including Brooks Koepka, Dustin Johnson, Ian Poulter, Joaquin Niemann, Eugenio Chacarra, Charles Schwartzel, Jason Kokrak, Talor Gooch, and more. Even last year, Bryson DeChambeau, Patrick Reed, Gooch, and Abraham Ancer were there. But this year, there are only three confirmed LIV pros: Reed, David Puig, and Ancer.

Explaining the low number of pros, Garcia said, “The first year we did it with a few more players, but we realized it’s difficult to get so many of the guys to come and make it fit into their schedules, so it’s difficult to organize it that way.” The LIV golfers not teeing off at the tournament might be busy kicking back, relaxing, and enjoying their off time with their loved ones, which could have made it difficult for Garcia to invite them.
