King Charles’ ‘hunky’ kilt-wearing aide announces engagement to new love following wife split

He is the kilt-clad aide of King Charles’ who is never far from his side and has won over a legion of online fans.

Lieutenant Colonel Jonny Thompson has become known as the ‘hunky’ equerry after dazzling royal fans at several high-profile events with the King and Queen Camilla. And now it has emerged that he has become engaged to his new girlfriend, several years after separating from his wife.

It emerged earlier this year that the soldier, who is from the 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland and is often seen wearing a traditional kilt, had formed a romance with PR executive Olivia Lewis, with the pair being spotted strolling hand in hand in London.

According to the Mail On Sunday, Lieutenant Colonel Thompson separated from his wife more than two years ago and has been seeing Ms Lewis for around a year, with the pair being described as “well matched and very happy”. And in an announcement in The Times today read: “The engagement is announced between Lieutenant Colonel Jonny Thompson, son of Mr and Mrs Alan Thompson of Morpeth, Northumberland, and Olivia Rose, daughter of Mr and Mrs Simon Lewis OBE of Primrose Hill, London.”

The happy news also comes just months after he won a promotion to become Charles’ super equerry. It is believed that his new role is seeing him stay on to work with both the King and Queen and be in charge of the monarch’s private affairs – but unfortunately for fans, this will mean he won’t be seen as much with the royals in public.
