Pro golfer Jon Rahm has taken a strong stance against the recent modifications to the Official World Golf Ranking (OWGR) system.
In a press conference, Rahm characterized the changes as “laughable,” emphasizing his disagreement with the increased weight placed on field size over the caliber of competing players.
Rahm’s primary critique centers on situations where tournaments with a lower quality field, such as the RSM Classic, award more ranking points than established events boasting a strong contingent of top golfers, exemplified by the DP World Tour Championship.
He argues that the presence of elite players inherently elevates a tournament’s significance, regardless of the overall field size.
Rahm believes the OWGR’s revised system “has missed the mark” and ultimately diminishes the value of top performers. This public criticism reignites the ongoing conversation around establishing a truly equitable ranking system within professional golf.
