Ex-Wimbledon ace shares Emma Raducanu regret over brutal strategy dividing tennis world
Johanna Konta has shared her regrets after failing to copy Emma Raducanu’s divisive approach to her career.
The 2021 US Open champion has raised eyebrows for brutally axing coaches when their relationship no longer works and making questionable scheduling decisions.
But Konta, who previously carried British hopes at Wimbledon during her career, believes it’s the right way to do things and wishes she adopted the same ruthlessness.
Raducanu recently opted to skip French Open qualifying so she could focus on the grass season. It paid off – she reached the semis in Nottingham and the Eastbourne quarter-final. And she followed it up by making it to the last 16 at Wimbledon.
The British No. 3 will now head straight to the American hard courts after deciding against playing in the Olympics – held on the French Open grounds – to avoid physical complications with quick surface changes. And Konta is backing Raducanu for doing what she needs to do.
“I don’t think I’m in any position to judge, to be honest, and I don’t think anyone is,” she said of the 21-year-old’s schedule. “I think this is where actually Emma is really good and very mature.
