‘Real reason’ Princess Kate is rarely seen with Prince William at England football matches

Princess Kate has not been by Prince William’s side in Germany as he cheered England’s football team on, as she has been taking time away while she receives cancer treatment.

However, that is not the only reason for her absence, as she traditionally stays away from football due to her allegiance to another English sport

Kate is patron of English rugby, a role previously held by Prince Harry, and as such it would not be appropriate for her to show her support for English football in public.

Football is known to be “William’s thing” as he is President of the Football Association and is devoted to his beloved Aston Villa as well as England.

The Birmingham team might seem a strange choice for the Prince, but he explained his allegiance to BBC presenter Gary Lineker in 2015.

He said: “A long time ago at school I got into football big time. All my friends were Chelsea or Manchester United fans and I didn’t really want to follow a run-of-the-mill team.

“I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments. Aston Villa has always had a great history.

“I have got friends of mine who support Aston Villa and one of the first FA Cup games I went to was Bolton v Aston Villa back in 2000. Sadly, Villa went on to lose to Chelsea.
