When Scottie Scheffler wins, he cries. In other words, he’s done a LOT of crying this year. It’s gotten to a point where it doesn’t even feel special when he gets choked up anymore. Save some tears for the rest of us, Scot!

Then again, Olympic tears—gold medal tears—hit very, very different. After Scheffler shot a ridiculous nine-under 62 to win gold on Sunday at Le Golf National, he found himself atop the podium with the national anthem playing. He held it together, surprisingly, for almost the entire anthem.

Then the emotion hit him like a tidal wave, producing what very well might be the video of the year in golf. Dare we say … the video of the year in SPORTS? Oh yeah, we went there:

If that doesn’t get you a little choked up as an American, check your pulse. Goodness.

Between Scheffler’s emotions, Tom Kim’s emotions, Rory McIlroy describing the week as “amazing” and Victor Perez’s epic back-nine charge in his home country, golf in the Olympics has never been in a better spot. And to think, after Tokyo in 2020, some wondered if the sport even had a place in the Summer Games. Looks like it’s very much here to stay, and we still have the women’s competition this week.
