Camila Giorgi drops update during Wimbledon after secretly quitting tennis at 32

Tennis beauty Camila Giorgi has issued fans with an update after secretly quitting the sport earlier this year. The Italian, 32, allegedly decided to hang up her racket in order to focus on her burgeoning career as both a lingerie model and fashion designer.

Giorgi is a former Wimbledon quarter-finalist and is believed to have earned around £5million in prize money over the course of her career as a pro athlete. But in May, she stepped away from tennis for good, with her last match being her straight-sets defeat to World No. 1 Iga Swiatek in the second round of the Miami Open back in March.

She’s been more or less off the grid ever since, but on Monday the former World No. 26 took to Instagram to offer followers a little sneak peek into her post-tour life. She uploaded a captionless mirror selfie to her Instagram story, wearing a pair of denim shorts and a low-cut beige top.

After her Miami Open defeat in May, Giorgi caused a stir by failing to show up at her various scheduled tour dates. The WTA (Women’s Tennis Association) released a statement saying they had been unable to contact her, prompting something of a scramble to locate her.

Eventually, Giorgi announced that she’d decided to retire, but only after rumours began circulating that she’d fled to the USA from her native Italy after questions over her tax returns. Her lawyers later denied that her retirement was associated with her reported tax issues, claiming that she had already been planning to end her career.

In a further twist, according to La Repubblica, via Corriere della Serra, Giorgi was accused of taking several expensive items from a villa she was renting with members of her family, including rugs and antique tables.
